Data Organisation
File naming convention
The general format will be netcdf. The metadata provided with the datasets will follow the NetCDF Climate and Forecast (CF) Metadata Convention. In some specific cases the grib or the gamic format can be used. This needs to be discused from case to case. Furthermore if compression results in much smaller file sizes this should be done with the gzip command. The filename should contain information about date, gop category, instrument, measurement site, and the variables in the file.
yyyymmdd_gop[1-9]_[a-z][a-z][a-z]_[a-z][a-z][a-z][a-z]{_[a-z]}.[nc|tar].[gz]
An example is the observation of the rain drop size distribution (rdsd) by a micro rain radar (mrr) at the station Helgoland (helg) on the 2nd of January 2007: 20070102_gop3_mrr_helg_rdsd.nc
For the database a CERA entryname and entryacronym needs to be defined whereby the maximum length for the acronymname is 28 characters. The length for the entryname is arbitrary.
