  • Only those pixels displayed enter the frequency distributions, i.e., only those within the CloudSat detection range (0.001-1 g m^-3 / -26-+30 dBZ).

Abbreviations

  • ma : moving average (over the profiles; along CloudSat track), only applied on CloudSat data
  • all : all 3 data sets detect the cloud, i.e., only overlapping cloud regions are included
  • T : T < = -10degC
  • C : CLC >= 50%
  • H : HTOPCON = 0
  • A : total column attenuation < = 3 dBZ

Hydrometeor fraction

i.e., number of pixels where -27 dBZ < Z < +29 dBZ in percent

Mass distributions

  • Equivalent to PDF but (1) not normalized and (2) multiplied by IWC.
  • Takes quite long to calculate correctly, this is first guess with lower and upper boundaries of the IWC bins.
