The cloudnet retrieval shows that the faint cirrus clouds, visible in the animation above,
cover a height range from 4km-10km height (gray area). They consist of ice crystals which produce the halo.


Almukantar scans: horizontal axis is time, verical axis is the azimuth angle.
Every vertical column of pixels are taken from the eastern half of a circle
in the sky image at the elevation of the sun. The faint line of higher light
intensity at about one eigths of the image height indicates that this halo was
present nearly during the whole daytime.

In principle it is possible to relate observed halos to the form of the ice crystal present in the cloud. See also the german wikipedia about halos:
